The Second Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction upheld the sentence of former municipal deputy of the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow Ilya Yashin (declared by the Ministry of Justice to be a foreign agent), TASS reports. Yashin is serving eight and a half years in the case of discrediting the armed forces of the Russian Federation (clause “d”, part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
“I was arrested for doubting the words of Major General Konashenkov. Are his words cast in granite? Why on earth does the state prohibit challenging government statements?” – said Ilya Yashin, who participated in the meeting via video link.
According to “Caution, News“, his speech was repeatedly interrupted by the judge, threatening to disconnect the convict from the video link. The judge also demanded that Ilya Yashin not say the word “war”, but use the phrase “special military operation” instead.
Shortly before the meeting, the media project notes, the convict was sent to a punishment cell for refusing to work on a construction site, after which he was transferred to strict conditions of detention with restrictions on visits, calls and transfers. On December 10, Ilya Yashin was transferred from Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 4 to pre-trial detention center No. 1 in the Smolensk region. According to the lawyer, this is “not the last destination.”
In December 2022, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow sentenced Ilya Yashin to eight and a half years in a general regime colony for disseminating false information about the Russian army. The charges were based on his statements about the involvement of the Russian military in the events in the Ukrainian Bucha.
