In 2023-2024 the government will allocate almost 4 billion rubles to create a digital ecosystem of the Northern Sea Route (NSR). About it informed Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at an operational meeting with his deputies. The press service of the Cabinet clarifiedthat we are talking about 3.8 billion rubles.

“The government has taken additional decisions to ensure year-round navigation in the Arctic. The Rules for granting a subsidy for the creation of a digital ecosystem of the Northern Sea Route were approved. And for this, almost 4 billion rubles are provided in the federal budget for the current and next years, ”Mishustin said.

The Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement that it is about creating an “ice navigator”, which will allow to lay a safe route with high accuracy “in the constantly changing conditions of the Arctic Ocean.” The creation of a digital ecosystem includes the installation of on-board automated information and measurement systems on ships, aircraft and helicopters.

This will improve the accuracy of assessing the meteorological and navigational situation, the government said in a statement. Then, information about weather conditions, the location of ships and icebreakers, etc. will get into the SPM Unified Digital Services Platform, where cargo carriers, ship captains, etc. will be able to work with it.

“It will be possible to collect more complete information about weather conditions and monitor the situation in real time, improve the safety of navigation on the Northern Sea Route, which is very important for the timely delivery of goods, including within the northern delivery and for export,” Mishustin said.

As follows from the message of the Cabinet, the creation of a digital ecosystem is planned to be completed by mid-2025.

In addition, by a new order, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the volume of budget investments in the construction of the oil terminal “Port Bukhta Sever”. As follows from the message, this year the amount of funds will be more than 2 billion rubles, and in 2024 – more than 1.6 billion. Thanks to the financing, work will be carried out to deepen the port water area and install navigation aids and navigation safety system facilities.

The NSR is the shortest water route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. The length of the route from the Kara Gate to Providence Bay is about 5,600 km.
