The Cabinet of Ministers approved a draft agreement with Belarus on uniform rules of competition

The Government of the Russian Federation approved the draft Russian-Belarusian agreement on uniform rules of competition, reported in the press service of the Cabinet. It is expected that the agreement will contribute to the harmonization of the antitrust laws of the two countries.
The order, which approves the version of the document agreed upon for signing, was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The main goal of the document is called “creation of organizational and legal foundations for the protection of competition to ensure the free movement of goods, works, services and the fair functioning of the markets of the member states of the Union State in relation to all participants.”
The agreement instructs the authorities of Russia and Belarus “to suppress any manifestations of monopoly and apply antitrust laws to companies from the Union State on equal terms.” It is noted that the work is being carried out within the framework of the implementation of 28 union programs approved last year.
“The agreement is aimed at creating uniform predictable rules for doing business in the territories of the two countries, on the basis of which the rights and interests of entrepreneurs and consumers in Russia and Belarus will be protected,” Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk quotes the Cabinet of Ministers.
Last autumn, the presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, signed the Union State’s integration decree, approved the military doctrine and the migration concept. Such cooperation between the two countries has been discussed since 1999. As a result, last year the presidents agreed on union programs aimed at convergence and harmonization in macroeconomic, monetary and industrial policy, and tax legislation.
The programs are also designed to create common markets for oil, gas and electricity. In addition, the heads of state agreed to harmonize financial, tax, labor and social legislation.
