The Ukrainian military launched a missile attack on the residential area of Energodar, where the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant is located, said in its Telegram channel member of the main council of the military-civilian administration of the Zaporozhye region Vladimir Rogov.
He stated that as a result of the attack, one person was killed, another was wounded by shrapnel. In addition, according to Rogov, an artillery strike was carried out on the TPP area, as a result of which the grass caught fire in the immediate vicinity of the station.
Fire crews were dispatched to the area of fire.
On August 13, the Zaporizhzhya State Administration also reported shelling of nuclear power plants and Energodar by the Ukrainian military. August 12 at VGA admitted shutdown of the Zaporizhzhya NPP reactor due to Ukrainian strikes.
On August 5, the CAA of the region announced another attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the ZNPP. As a result, two power lines and water pipes were damaged. The Russian Defense Ministry called Ukraine’s actions “nuclear terrorism”. On August 11, at the request of Russia, a meeting of the UN Security Council was held, at which the subject of shelling of the ZNPP was discussed. According to Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, at the meeting no one supported the Ukrainian version of what is happening around the station.
At the end of July, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi declaredthat the presence of the Russian military at the ZNPP leads to an extremely unstable situation. In his opinion, the transfer of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe under the control of Russia and the reports of the personnel about the use of violence against them is “a combination of violations of all possible safety rules that one can imagine.”
