Bundestag deputy Stefan Cottre urged “not to direct weapons against the Russians.”
According to him, Germany “should not be wrong again.” This is how he commented on the results of the meeting in the Rammstein format.
Kotray also urged the German authorities to take a more restrained stance. According to him, now there is “warfare on the part of NATO, Europe.”
“We are now discussing the supply of heavy weapons – Leopard tanks. And I’m afraid that this decision will still be made now,” he said.
He noted that earlier German Chancellor Olaf Scholz took a more restrained position, which is more correct. At the same time, according to Kotret, under pressure from the United States and NATO, “this reserved position is retreating.”
The head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, at a press conference following the meeting of the contact group on support for Kyiv in the Rammstein format, said that the conflict in Ukraine should end diplomatically. He said it was “time for Russians and Ukrainians to sit down at the negotiating table,” acknowledging that from a military standpoint, it will be very difficult for Ukraine to dislodge Russian troops in 2023.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, in turn, confirmed Germany’s position that the decision to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine had not been made. Ukraine’s partners are focused on making sure Kyiv has what it needs right now, the Pentagon chief said.
