Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said that the Russian federal budget deficit by the end of 2023 is expected to be at the level of 1% of GDP. According to the current budget for 2023-2025, the budget deficit for the current year was projected at 2.9 trillion rubles. (2% of GDP).
“About 1% is expected. Initially it was 2%. Additional non-oil and gas revenues are generally coming in quite well. The economy is working, and growth rates allow us to talk about higher budget revenues,” Mr. Siluanov told reporters at the Federation Council (quoted by Interfax).
In July, Anton Siluanov said that the budget deficit by the end of 2023 could amount to 2–2.5% of GDP. But in early September, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that a steady course towards positive changes allows us to count on the execution of the federal budget this year with a deficit at the level of the initial forecast of 2% of GDP. And already in October, President Vladimir Putin admitted that the figure for the year would be around 1%.
