The British were angry at Biden's strangeness: "Behaves like a jerk"

King Carl lost his temper and scolded a guard when he tried to force President Joe Biden to hurry at an extraordinary moment during their meeting at Windsor Palace on Monday.

According to the Daily Mail, Biden seemed to ignore the British monarch when he tried to silence him during their inspection of the Welsh Guards in the middle of a tactile welcome ceremony ahead of climate change talks.

Biden, 80, risked breaking royal protocol by grabbing Charles III, 74, by the hand as they shook hands and placing his hand on his back.

A wandering Biden also grabbed a handrail to climb onto the stage to perform the “Stars and Stripes Banner” after making King Charles wait for his SUV to drive through the castle.

At one point, the monarch tried to get Biden to keep walking while he was talking to one of the guards. The President of the United States stood and continued to chat while the king unsuccessfully tried to get him to keep moving.

Charles III then seemed to direct his anger at the guard before walking away with the American president, who tried to refute accusations of his anti-British stance.

Biden arrived in London for just 24 hours, raising questions about why a full-fledged state visit to the UK was not planned. The overseas visitor spent just 42 minutes drinking tea with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street, the Daily Mail notes.

The US president faced fury in Britain in May after he decided to skip Charles’s coronation and send first lady Jill and granddaughter Finnegan in his place. Biden also caused bewilderment when he oddly ended a June speech with “God save the Queen, man.”

Biden last held formal talks with then Crown Prince Charles at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow in November 2021.

Earlier on his trip to the UK, Biden attempted to counter claims of his anti-British stance while drinking tea with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in the garden at 10 Downing Street.

The President of the United States said that the US-British relationship is “strong as a rock” and recalled that he and Sunak have had numerous talks over the past months.

Biden’s current visit follows a trip to Northern Ireland where he was accused of snub and anti-British ridicule.

“Glad to be back,” he said jokingly. “We only met a month ago.”

The British flag was clearly visible on the US president’s “The Beast” as it drove into the famous street – a stark contrast to its absence when Biden visited Northern Ireland earlier this year. Biden and Sunak greeted each other with a warm handshake on the steps before starting their discussions.

But, according to the Daily Mail, there is growing frustration in the British public that while this will be their fifth meeting in as many months, Biden has largely ignored the UK’s perspective. More hotspots have sprung up between Washington and London in recent days, with Biden pouring cold water on the idea of Ukraine joining NATO soon. He also embarrassed Sunak by saying that the US would supply Kyiv with cluster bombs, a weapon the UK is keen to avoid. And the pair may have an uneasy disagreement over the next head of NATO, after Biden apparently blocked the ambitions of Defense Secretary Ben Wallace and supported the EU’s Ursula von der Leyen candidacy for the alliance’s top post. British conservatives warned that von der Leyen was “the worst German defense minister ever” before she became president of the European Commission. Under her, German troops, according to the British publication, trained with brooms in NATO exercises, because they did not have enough rifles.

British Conservative MP David Jones told DailyMail.com the interaction was useless unless there was a “positive response”. “The prime minister should remind him which country is America’s strongest ally,” he added.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan touted repeated contacts with Sunak aboard Air Force One en route to London – with a rare gaffe when he brought up the sensitive topic of Charles III’s coronation, which Biden missed. Instead, he sent First Lady Jill Biden to Britain for the celebrations.

– He will also have the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Sunak at number 10. In fact, this will be his first visit at number 10 as president. He has, of course, been to the UK twice already – once to the G7 in Carbis Bay and once to the COP climate conference in Glasgow. And then, of course, the third time he was here for… the coronation… or, excuse me, the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,” Sullivan said.

According to the Daily Mail, British MPs are complaining that Biden is “acting like a jerk” after apparently being angered that Britain failed to get his approval to train Ukrainian pilots for F-16 fighter jets.
