Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) UK blockedO deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, citing its own findings, published back in February.
According to the CMA, “the deal will negatively affect the future of the fast-growing cloud gaming market, lead to reduced innovation and fewer choices for UK gamers in the coming years.”
Microsoft has already stated that they are disappointed with the CMA decision and intend to appeal it. At the same time, the deal may still be blocked by other regulators: their own investigations into this matter are currently underway. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) USA and European Commission.
Microsoft agreed to buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion in January 2022. This is one of the largest transactions in the video game market and the largest acquisition in the history of the corporation.
