A London court has accepted a lawsuit against Sony, which is suspected of abusing its dominant position in the market. Almost 9 million UK residents who went to court believe that the company inflated prices for games on the PlayStation Store. They are demanding compensation in the amount of 6.3 billion pounds ($7.9 billion), reports Reuters.

The lawsuit was filed back in 2022. Consumer rights advocate Alex Neil spoke on behalf of the British people. She said Sony required that digital games and add-ons be bought and sold only through the PlayStation Store, which charges developers and publishers a 30% commission. The plaintiffs claim they paid “higher prices” because of this.

Sony’s lawyers are convinced that the case is “a complete fabrication” and insist it should be dismissed. On November 22, the court ruled that the case would continue, but customers who made purchases on PlayStation after the lawsuit was filed in 2022 must be excluded from the list of plaintiffs.

As Kommersant reported, during the 11.11 sale on Yandex. Market” leader in sales volume became Sony PlayStation 5 game console worth around 55 thousand rubles. From November 15 global sales have begun the company’s new portable console, its starting price is 18 thousand rubles. After Sony Group Corporation left Russia, products are brought into the country only through parallel import; they can also be purchased on marketplaces.
