The reconstruction of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater is planned to be carried out by the celebration of the anniversary in 2026, General Director Vladimir Urin said at a meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Bolshoi Theater. The theater will not be closed during the work.
Urin recalled that the previous reconstruction of the Bolshoi Theater building was completed in 2011. “The building is not in the most prosperous place,” the general director said. “In terms of a very busy street and the number of people who visit it, and so on.”
For this reason, according to the management, it is necessary to carry out serious restoration work. “To make the theater building look like new in the year of its anniversary,” Urin said.
It is planned to perform not only external work – “paint, whitewash”, but also to carry out “very serious work.” In particular, we are talking about replacing the material on historical chairs.
