The Black Sea Fleet warned of a mine hazard on a shipping route in the northwestern part of the Black Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“The command of the Black Sea Fleet has issued a warning to seafarers about the presence of a mine hazard on the shipping route in the northwestern part of the Black Sea,” leads TASS message.
We are talking about a drifting mine, which the Ukrainian side put up at the beginning of last year during the “indiscriminate mining” off the coast of the Black Sea.
The Ministry of Defense, in turn, noted that an unknown number of mines are drifting in the Black Sea due to the lack of professionalism and irresponsibility of the Ukrainian Navy. The defense ministry also recalled another case in March 2022, when two anchor mines that the Ukrainian Navy had installed off the coast of Odessa were found drifting off the coast of Romania and Turkey. In the FSB of Russia then notedthat the Ukrainian side has installed about 420 obsolete mines on the approaches to Odessa, Ochakov, Chernomorsk and Yuzhny.
At the same time, the intelligence service then said that, in accordance with the Convention on the Laying of Underwater, Automatically Exploding Mines, it is forbidden to place mines fixed on anchors, automatically exploding from contact.
