The best skiers were determined at competitions in Provideniya

On Sunday, April 9, in the village of Provideniya, the three-day district competitions in alpine skiing ended. Athletes from the two municipalities competed in the super giant, giant slalom and slalom disciplines, Chukotka news agency reports.

20 skiers from Egvekinot and 33 from Provideniya aged 7 to 37 took part in the competition. The races were held on a 380-meter track on the slope of the Portovaya hill. Based on the results of three days, the best in three disciplines and seven age groups were determined. Three-time gold medalists were Maria Dumcheva and Kirill Egorov from Egvekinot. Providence athletes can boast of the same number of gold medals. Among juniors from 15 to 17 years old, Elizaveta Tyurkina and Artyom Derkach have such results.

“Compared to last year, the opponents prepared more thoroughly and almost caught up with us in medals. In some age groups, the intensity was to the limit. I was very surprised by the young talents from Egvekinot – Maria Dumcheva and Kirill Egorov, they easily outperformed the other guys. Well, 15-year-old Artyom Derkach from Providence showed the best time at the competition,” said Igor Dolgopolov, director of the Cascade Children and Youth Sports School of the Providensky GO.

Natalia Paulina became undefeated in the age category of 13-14 years. The best time in slalom and giant slalom among adults was shown by Boris Zenzin from Egvekinot.

In the super-giant in the age group 2009-2010 born. Nikita Topsky distinguished himself, and among skiers born in 2005. and older – Anton Gamza. In the giant slalom discipline among 12-13-year-old participants, Artyom Frolov became the gold medalist, and Vasily Rentin had no equal in the slalom.

The solemn rewarding of the participants of the competition took place in the Center for Culture and Leisure of the Providensky GO. An hour and a half concert program was presented to the athletes by the creative teams of the cultural center and pupils of the House of Children’s Creativity. Prize-winners and winners received certificates and medals, as well as USB flash drives, towels and other memorable gifts.

“Next year we plan to accept athletes from the villages of the Providensky urban district and witness not only ski wrestling, but also football and basketball wrestling,” Evgeny Podlesny, head of the Providensky District, shared his plans.

Recall that in 2022, 28 local athletes competed at the regional competitions in Provideniya, as well as 19 from Egvekinot and one representative from Anadyr. According to the results of the races, the skiers competed for 72 medals in different types and age categories.
