The best skaters of Sakhalin were determined at the All-Russian competitions

About 100 Sakhalin residents joined the open All-Russian mass skating competition “The Ice of Our Hope”. Amateur competitions were held on February 4 in the park of culture and recreation of the regional center, the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region reported.

“All-Russian mass competitions “The Ice of Our Hope” are held within the framework of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” of the national project “Demography”. Everyone who went out on the ice today is already a winner! I wish everyone to be charged with a good mood and good luck at the starts!” – Irina Ryabkina, Director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region, addressed the participants.

As Anton Vorotylyak, chief judge of the competition, said, “The Ice of Our Hope” in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk annually gathers about a hundred children and adults.

“Our competitions are amateur, but every year the level of training of participants is growing, it is very noticeable. We judge loyally – for example, we don’t evaluate the equipment of the participants, the “correctness” of the skates – you can run even in hockey, even in figure skates, ”he said.

Those who did not have their own skates could use the free rental at the Kosmos stadium. A buffet was also organized there, where athletes and spectators could refresh themselves with hot tea and pies.

Participants competed in six age groups over two distances. Children from first to fifth grade ran 50 meters, the rest ran a hundred meters.

Sakhalin Elena Tomashuk first appeared on the Ice of Our Hope in order to finally fulfill her old dream.

“Since childhood, I dreamed of participating in speed skating competitions. She skated from the age of five to ten. Then there was a break – 30 years! Today I want to get on the ice and take first place! My husband and youngest daughter, Danielka, came to support me,” the Sakhalin shared.

The fighting spirit brought Elena Tomashuk victory in her age category. Also, Alexander Ten, Sergey Krivich, Andrey Tolstoy, Alexandra Dvortsova, Grigory Akhmarov, Vera Solovyova, Rodion Chalenko, Angelina Chernyavskaya, Kirill Khasanshin, Taisiya Slobodina rose to the top step of the podium. Iraida Zykova, Master of Sports of the USSR in speed skating, presented the medals to the winners and prize-winners of the competition.
