The Minsk City Court sentenced a truck driver to five years in prison for exploding a firecracker near military personnel. The human rights center “Viasna” reported this on its Telegram channel.

As it became known to the investigation, the incident occurred on May 11, 2023 in the area of ​​the village of Yasen. A man in his 50s exploded a homemade firecracker near a stopped military convoy. He threw an explosive device towards the soldiers, after which he tried to escape from the crime scene. However, the man was unable to escape: the military blocked the road and detained him.

Initially, investigators opened a criminal case against him under the article of hooliganism. However, extremist symbols were later found in his car. The man was also subscribed to prohibited channels on social networks. Based on these facts, another criminal case was opened against the criminal under the article on the creation of an extremist group or participation in it. The court sentenced the truck driver to five years in prison.
