The Basmanny Court of Moscow found Ukrainian TV presenter Maria Efrosinina (included in the register of terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation) in absentia guilty of spreading fakes about the Russian army, court spokeswoman Olga Nazarova told Vedomosti.

She was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in a general regime colony. Efrosinina was found guilty under paragraph “d” of Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the RF Armed Forces based on political hatred). She is also prohibited from administering websites on the Internet for three years.

A criminal case was initiated against the TV presenter in connection with her publications on Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).

Rosfinmonitoring added Efrosinina to the list of terrorists and extremists in January 2023. In May, the court arrested her in absentia, and the journalist was put on the international wanted list.

Efrosinina was born in 1979 in Crimea. She has hosted programs on the Ukrainian First National TV Channel, ICTV, Inter, etc., and runs her own channel on Youtube. The TV presenter is an honorary UN Ambassador for Population in Ukraine.
