The Basmanny court arrested Mikhail Zygar, recognized as a foreign agent, in absentia

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested the writer, director and journalist Mikhail Zygar (included in the register of foreign agents) in absentia in a criminal case of fakes about the Russian army, reported Interfax with reference to the press service of the court. The preventive measure will take effect from the moment of his detention on Russian territory or extradition to Russia.

Criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Public dissemination, under the guise of reliable messages, of knowingly false information about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”) in relation to Mikhail Zygar (included in the register of foreign agents) was initiated March 13. April 9 Ministry of Internal Affairs announced he is wanted. Interfax writes that the reason for the criminal case was the journalist’s public statements about the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

Mikhail Zygar (included in the register of foreign agents) worked at Kommersant in 2000–2009, from 2010 to 2015 he was editor-in-chief of the Dozhd TV channel (included in the register of foreign agents; the legal entity of the TV channel in Latvia and the Netherlands is recognized as undesirable organizations). According to his authorship, the books “All the Kremlin Army”, “The Empire Must Die”, “All are Free” were published. Now Mikhail Zygar (included in the register of foreign agents) lives in Berlin. He moved from Russia to Germany in 2022.
