In electric trains, by analogy with trains, they plan to introduce a ban on landing animals without an owner, said Deputy General Director of Russian Railways Ivan Kolesnikov. He did not specify the timing of the introduction of this measure.

Mr. Kolesnikov raised this topic at a meeting of the State Duma working group on improving the rules for transporting passengers with animals in transport. “The rules that we have defined also apply to suburban transportation. The only thing is that this will require us to carry out a certain number of corporate procedures,” said the deputy general director of Russian Railways (quoted from RIA Novosti).

He recalled that the shareholders of most of the suburban companies, in addition to Russian Railways, are also the regions. “Of course, we will approve these changes in due course. I am sure that there will be no contradictions on this matter,” says Ivan Kolesnikov.

Procedure for dealing with animals without an owner changed after the incident with Twix the cat in January. The pet was traveling with a relative of the owner on the Yekaterinburg-St. Petersburg train and got out of the carrier along the way. The conductor decided that he was homeless and threw him out of the carriage into the 30-degree frost. The cat died. The police refused to initiate a criminal case under Art. 330 (“Arbitrariness”), without finding corpus delicti. Russian Railways suspended conductor from work.
