The Baikal Ski Marathon will be held in Buryatia

The XXIII Baikal Ski Marathon “Baikal Ski” will take place on April 19-20 on the shores of Lake Baikal in the village of Maksimikha, Barguzin district. The event will bring together more than 700 athletes from 4 countries: Poland, China, Mongolia and Russia. Participants of the Baikal Ski Marathon will test their strength on one of the most beautiful slopes in the world. This year the competition is held for the 23rd time.
According to the Ministry of Sports of Buryatia, the participation of the strongest athletes of Russia is expected: Olympic champion and Tour de ski winner Sergei Ustyugov, Raul Shakirzyanov from Perm, Andrey Feller from Tatarstan, Dmitry Ploskonosov from Yakutia, Andrey Alipkin from Ryazan, as well as winners and prize-winners of the Russialoppet 2024 marathons.
The marathon was founded by the famous coach from Ust-Barguzin, Alexander Ushakov, who decided to extend the ski season by conducting training on the ice of the lake in the spring, since the snow in Buryatia was already melting at this time. In 2013, the race was included in the Russialoppet series of ski marathons in Russia. In 2022, about 500 athletes from more than 20 regions of the country, as well as from Mongolia, Sweden, Finland, Great Britain, Germany, Estonia and even Thailand, took part in the competition.
