Mikhail Nikolaev, the first president of Yakutia, died at the age of 86. This was announced in his Telegram channel by the current head of the republic, Aisen Nikolaev.
Mikhail Nikolaev was born and lived all his life in the territory of Yakutia. Mikhail Nikolaev began his career at the age of 24 in the Zhigansky district of the republic as a veterinarian. After graduating from the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the CPSU, he held responsible positions in the republic, starting in the mid-70s. In 1975, Nikolaev was Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the YASSR, later headed the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic. In 1991, he was elected the first president of the republic, then gaining more than 76% of the vote. Later, Nikolaev was re-elected three times as head of the region.
The current head of the republic, Aisen Nikolaev, expressed deep condolences to the family and relatives of his predecessor. He noted that Mikhail Nikolaev until the last day lived in the interests of his fellow countrymen.
The date and place of the funeral has not yet been announced.
