The authorities of the Kamchatka capital are restoring order on Khalaktyrsky beach

Systematic work is being carried out with entrepreneurs who have facilities on the Pacific coast.

All those who once placed their objects are invited to enter into an agreement for the implementation of further activities. One of them is a representative of the surf industry in Kamchatka, co-founder and director of the QUIKSILVER surf camp, co-founder of the Locals surf camp and co-founder of the Volna school Alexey Leshchev.

Alexey Leshchev and the Quicksilver team have been working on the beach since 2017. The guys started as a small surf school. Today it is a full-fledged surf camp, which constantly employs about 20 people, and additionally about 80 volunteers are involved during the season. Every summer, the camp welcomes up to 1,300 people from all over the world who receive surf lessons.

“Our project is one of the largest in Russia and in the world. It is unique in the infrastructure that we have created here, absolutely suitable for ice surfing like ours, surrounded by volcanoes and the incredible nature of Kamchatka. This impresses surfers from all over the world who were at our camp and know us from videos on the Internet. In 2021, we held the Russian surfing championship in the short board discipline. A member of the Russian surfing team in the junior category, Daria Mavricheva (16 years old), trains with us,” said the head of the surf camp.

Alexey Leshchev and the entire Quicksilver team are truly passionate people who love their work and strive to develop a unique sport.

“Surfing is a fairly large industry, and it is very important that it develops here in Kamchatka on the Khalaktyrsky beach, because in Russia, despite the fact that it is a huge country, there is only one place with stable waves that are so suitable for surfing, like no other place. This is Khalaktyrsky beach. And here, of course, it is necessary to create special conditions for surfers, because glamping can be on the shore of a lake or in the forest, a cafe can be anywhere in the city, and a surf school can be in no other place except on the ocean shore.” , – noted Alexey.

Due to the current procedure, the Quicksilver surf camp must move to the beach area reserved for regulated tourism, which implies certain organizational difficulties. School representatives are ready for this, are developing options for how this can be done as carefully as possible, and are looking to the future with optimism.

“We are in a constructive dialogue with the city administration. The direction is positive, and we hope that we will successfully move, because, of course, moving such an object is a very big undertaking. The fact is that the rules for being on the Khalaktyrsky beach have changed and become stricter: the pile fields must be of a different class and level than we used before. There must be a greater distance from the soil to the decking, there must be other communications. Therefore, moving means doing a new project all over again. Moreover, the new place is geographically different from the one we occupied before. With this in mind, we need to think about how to restructure the business we are doing. We are currently discussing all these issues,” Alexey said.

He noted that surfing is a sport that requires a special approach in an organizational sense: “We hope that this industry in Kamchatka will further develop, more places for surfing will appear, more infrastructure places will appear. A very important idea here is that the cold surfing season requires a certain infrastructure, first of all, warm changing rooms and hot showers. We really hope that all this will be taken into account. We are for the environment, and therefore living in the camp, which is a full cycle, was organized in an environmentally friendly way. We have non-stationary geo-domes, tents for living, no fundamental buildings, septic tanks, everything was removed in a timely manner. For many years we have been monitoring this place to ensure that no new fire pits appear here, and we remove garbage. We want surfing to develop in Kamchatka, because, indeed, this is the best place in Russia.”

Alexey believes that Kamchatka surfing has a great future.

“This is our industry, we live by it, for us it’s a whole culture. Kamchatka as a whole and the Khalaktyrsky beach itself should have long ago become the Mecca of surfing in the world. Few people know that about 5 thousand people already visit Kamchatka every year to go surfing. Today, surfers, as I see it, are the most creative people. Our guests are young guys from 25 to 35 years old, wealthy, athletic, enthusiastic. Maybe in the 70s of the last century, surfers were some kind of non-systemic people and even anarchists. Now it’s a completely different vibe, completely different people. They look to ensure that, first of all, everything is environmentally friendly; they strive to be creative in everything. They can definitely be called the support and protection of Khalaktyrsky beach,” concluded Alexey.

Let us remind you that in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, work is underway to conclude agreements with entrepreneurs who will continue their activities on the territory of Khalaktyrsky Beach in accordance with the current Procedure for locating objects. The authorized body for concluding contracts is the municipal institution “Khalaktyrsky Beach”. Entrepreneurs who have not concluded an agreement within the time limits established by law leave the territory of Khalaktyrsky Beach, of which they were notified in advance.
