The Moscow City Court upheld the sentence of 8.5 years in prison for the author of the Telegram channel “Protest MSU” Dmitry Ivanov, it is reported in Telegram channel his supporters. Ivanov was convicted of publicly disseminating deliberately false information about the Russian army (clause “e”, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In court, the information was confirmed by RIA Novosti.

At today’s meeting, Dmitry Ivanov asked the court to call as witnesses the speaker of the Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov and the representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, who, according to him, “actually acted as witnesses” in the case, but were never questioned. The Moscow City Court rejected his request.

In March, the Timiryazevsky court of the capital sentenced Dmitry Ivanov to eight years and six months in prison for a series of publications about Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

Referring to the results of a linguistic examination, the prosecution argued that the text of his Telegram posts included “signs of political hatred and enmity” against the Russian armed forces. State prosecution asked the court sentenced him to nine years in a general regime colony.
