The author of one of the most famous graffiti in the world has died

Russian and German artist Dmitry Vrubel, known mainly as the author of the graffiti “Lord! Help me survive this mortal love”, which has become one of the symbols of the reunified Germany. This graffiti depicts a kiss between the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Leonid Brezhnev, and the leader of the GDR, Erich Honecker.
According to the news.zerkalo.io resource, his relatives announced his death on their social networks. At the end of June, Dmitry Vrubel contracted a coronavirus infection, was hospitalized, the disease was severe, affecting the heart. At first, the doctors installed a ventricular circulatory support apparatus for him, and then put him into a state of artificial coma.
The artist was born in 1960 in Moscow. Vrubel’s mother was born in exile in Tyumen. One grandfather died in 1938, the second worked in the Gulag system and in the NKVD. Since 2010, he has lived permanently with his wife in Berlin, where they created an open workshop Vrubel + Timofeeva at the PANDA-Theater in the Kulturbrauerei cultural center.
In 2009, a graffiti painted on a section of the Berlin Wall was removed as part of a restoration commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s demolition. Dmitry Vrubel, the author of the graffiti, agreed to restore it.
