The son of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, Levon, received a mandate as a deputy of the republic’s parliament, said the Chairman of the Central Election Commission Vahagn Hovakimyan. He has been in custody on charges of beating police officers since September.

Kocharyan received a mandate as a deputy of the Hayastan faction, clarifies “Sputnik Armenia”. Before this, as the publication adds, it became known that deputy from the Hayastan faction Armen Charchyan resigned his mandate.

On September 22, Kocharyan was detained after protests in Yerevan against the backdrop of the start of Azerbaijan’s “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to media reports, during his arrest he was beaten by Yerevan police officers, after which he was hospitalized. The court arrested Kocharyan on suspicion of beating four police officers. By statement his lawyers, after receiving the mandate, Kocharyan acquired parliamentary immunity and cannot remain under arrest.
