The arrested head of the Basmanny OMVD was suspected of “working for the West”

The victims’ lawyer suggested that he wanted to escape to Latvia

Sergey Andreev, the head of the OMVD for the Basmanny district of Moscow, who was arrested today by the Tushinsky court of the capital, pleaded not guilty. He stated that he was simply fulfilling his duties – he sent the documents to the investigator for verification.

As the MK correspondent reported from the courtroom, the lawyer of the injured party suspected the police officer of wanting to escape to Latvia. Apparently, such a conclusion suggested itself from Andreev’s route. The head of the DMIA was vacationing with his family in Sochi (he has a wife and two children born in 20015 and 2022). However, he did not fly home from Sochi, but to St. Petersburg, where he was detained. Apparently, the proximity of the city on the Neva to Latvia and the plot of the accusation allowed the lawyer to make such an assumption.

Andreev explained in response that he already had a train ticket to Moscow, and his passport was kept in the personnel department, so he could not have left for Latvia. Nevertheless, the lawyer insisted that the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs had some “curators, and Andreev was working for the West.”

Andreev is accused of abuse of power. According to investigators, he instructed employees to obtain statements on the movement of funds on the accounts of a certain citizen. Then this information was transferred to the lawyers of the Latvian firm, according to which a criminal case of fraud was initiated. Quite quickly, the prosecutor’s office canceled the decision to initiate proceedings as illegal, but the seizure was still made. Some intrigue of the story was given by the fact that the interests of the Latvian company were represented by a law firm where Andreev’s wife serves. The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that this was a mere coincidence, and that his wife was on maternity leave.
