The total area of forest fires in Russia over the past day increased by more than 20%, to 126 thousand hectares, follows from data Aviation Forest Protection as of today, August 5. More than 3,000 people and over 300 pieces of equipment are involved in extinguishing fires.
“Over the past day, on August 4, 2022, 36 forest fires were extinguished in Russia on an area of 7090 hectares. As of 00:00 Moscow time on August 5, 2022, there were 130 forest fires on the territory of the Russian Federation on an area of 126,400 hectares, on which active extinguishing work was carried out.
Most fires are in Yakutia (51,463 ha), the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (40,426 ha) and the Magadan Region (20,346 ha). Significant areas of forests are burning in the Khabarovsk Territory (5877 ha), the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug (2655 ha) and the Komi Republic (2646 ha).
Forest fires with an area of less than 1 thousand hectares occur in the Vologda, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Sverdlovsk, Tomsk and Tyumen regions, as well as in the Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Kamchatka, Perm Territories, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Republic of Buryatia. In addition, forest fires are active in several reserves: Malaya Sosva (Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, area 1685 ha), Dzhugdzhursky (Khabarovsk Territory, 20 ha) and Yugyd va (Komi, 50 ha).
The fire season is in effect in 83 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and an emergency regime has been introduced in seven regions. There is a special fire regime in 59 regions of Russia.
