The anniversary Arctic Cup in Greco-Roman wrestling started in Arkhangelsk

In Arkhangelsk, the tenth All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling tournament “Arctic Cup” started on the Nord Expo wrestling mats. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Sports. More than 500 athletes from 7 to 16 years old from 29 regions of Russia and the Republic of Belarus are fighting for the honorary trophy and competition medals.
At the opening ceremony, on behalf of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Alexander Tsybulsky, the participants, guests and organizers of the tournament were welcomed by Vice Governor Sergei Pivkov.
– Ten years ago, the Arctic Cup was a small, regional tournament, in which just over 100 athletes took part. Over the years, thanks to the active work of the regional wrestling federation, the leadership of the Olympus sports school and the support of the government of the Arkhangelsk region, the tournament has grown to the all-Russian level. It is already obvious that the young wrestlers will have to defend the title of winners of the “Arctic Cup” in conditions of fierce sports competition. Today there are 52 sports clubs among the participants. And these are not only representatives of the Russian wrestling school, but also athletes from the Republic of Belarus,” said Sergei Pivkov.
Famous wrestlers came to support the participants of the Arctic Cup – world championship medalist Evgeniy Saleev, world champion and three-time European champion Artyom Surkov, world championship medalist Maxim Surkov.
The number of participants in the all-Russian tournament “Arctic Cup” indicates that in the Arkhangelsk region interest in the Olympic sport – wrestling – is very high. Thanks to such tournaments, young wrestlers have an excellent opportunity to test their wrestling qualities and prove their superiority,” said Honored Master of Sports of Russia Artyom Surkov.
The spectacular bouts of the All-Russian Greco-Roman wrestling tournament “Arctic Cup” will last until December 10.
