The Prosecutor’s Office of Poland withdrew funds from the accounts of the embassy and the trade mission of Russia. About this “RIA Novosti” informed Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergey Andreev.
“We received a notification from the prosecutor’s office that the funds from the accounts of the embassy and the trade representation in Santander bank were transferred to the accounts of the prosecutor’s office,” the diplomat told the agency.
As Andreev clarified, following this, Santander informed that he had ceased cooperation with the embassy and closed the accounts. According to the diplomat, we are talking about “significant funds” that were on the accounts both in US dollars and in Polish zlotys. Andreev assessed what happened as “a flagrant violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.”
Last autumn it became known that the Polish authorities confiscated a recreation center that the Russian embassy has rented since the 1980s. In March 2022 Andreev informed about the blocking by Poland of the accounts of the Russian embassy in Warsaw under the pretext that the funds from these accounts allegedly “can be used to launder illegally obtained funds or to finance terrorism.”
