Russia is ready to liberalize the visa regime or switch to a visa-free regime with Turkmenistan, if Ashgabat wants it, declared Russian Ambassador to this country Alexander Blokhin in an interview with TASS.
“We are ready to liberalize the issue of visa regime, tourism, etc. to the extent that Turkmenistan is ready. We are fully prepared from liberalization to complete abolition, as the Turkmen side decides,” he said.
At the same time, the ambassador stressed that the Russian Federation is not going to impose anything, since it respects the sovereign right to regulate such issues. Blokhin also added that Turkmenistan has established a visa regime with all countries, since the country attaches great importance to security issues.
As the director of the consular department of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Klimov said earlier, Russia and China cook new agreement on visa-free travel for tourist groups. The document also provides for a reduction in the minimum composition of tourist groups from five to three people, an increase in the period of their visa-free stay from 15 to 21 days and the introduction of electronic document management.
In early March, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia intends to conclude agreements on visa-free travel with 11 countries. These include Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahamas, Barbados, Haiti, Zambia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago.
