The commander of the Baltic Fleet, Admiral Viktor Liina, is considered the most likely candidate for the post of the new commander of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet), RIA Novosti reports, citing two sources in law enforcement agencies.
Two sources close to the military department confirmed to TASS that Mr. Liina will most likely become the head of the Pacific Fleet. One of the interlocutors of the agency said that Vice Admiral Vladimir Vorobyov, who is now Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, could take the post of commander of the Baltic Fleet.
Earlier today, April 20, it became known that the post of commander of the Pacific Fleet left Admiral Sergei Avakyants. According to Yury Trutnev, presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, Mr. Avakyants was appointed to a new position – head of the headquarters in charge of military sports training and patriotic education centers.
54-year-old Victor Liina graduated from the Higher Naval Diving School. Lenin Komsomol. From 2010 to 2012 he was commander of the White Sea naval base of the Northern Fleet. In October 2012, Mr. Liina was appointed commander of the troops and forces in the northeast of Russia, Pacific Fleet. He held this position until 2014. From 2019 to 2021, he was Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces. He has been Commander of the Baltic Fleet since October 2021.
