The all-Russian offensive line in the NHL scored in the first period

The experiment of the NHL club Columbus Blue Jackets was successfully completed. For the first time since the early 90s, a National Hockey League club took to the ice with a three-forward team made up entirely of Russians. This was reported by The Athletic.
A Russian second line was formed for the match with the Ottawa Senators. Dmitry Voronkov took the place of center forward, Kirill Marchenko and Egor Chinakhov played on the flanks.
The result was not long in coming. Already in the 15th minute, Voronkov, after a pass from his compatriots, hit the Ottawa goalkeeper with a wrist shot and made it 2:0. This is Dmitry’s 5th goal of the season. Columbus ultimately won with a score of 4:2.
The most successful Russian trio in the NHL is considered to be the Fedorov-Larionov-Kozlov pairing, which helped lead the Detroit Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in 1997. Several years ago, Buchnevich, Barbashev and Tarasenko played on the same line for some time in the St. Louis Blues. There were other Russian combinations at different times. In “Florida” in the 90s they teamed up Viktor Kozlov with the Bure brothers, and in “San Jose” they teamed up Sergei Makarov, Igor Larionov and Andrei Nazarov. But still, this was rather an exception to the rule.
