The Alexei Rybnikov Theater celebrates its 30th anniversary

For this round date, the theater prepared three musical performances: “Juno and Avos”, “Le prince André. Prince Andrei Bolkonsky” and “The Wolf and the Seven Kids”. Performances are staged at the Gradsky Hall Theatre.
“Juno and Avos” directed by the chief director of the theater Alexander Rykhlov is presented in the author’s version by Alexei Rybnikov. It combined the traditions of Russian sacred music, folklore, genres of mass “urban” music with the figurative, ideological and aesthetic priorities of the composer. Stars of the new wave are involved in the performance: Nikita and Alexander Pozdnyakov (participants of the Voice project), actors Nikolai Drozdovsky, Svetlana Bakaeva, Anna Burkina, Natalya Krestyanskikh, Diana Orlovskaya, Ekaterina Kulchitskaya, Nikolai Lyutov, Yves Nabiev (winner of the Success project) .
Opera-drama “Le prince André. Prince Andrey Bolkonsky” based on the novel “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy was completed by Alexei Rybnikov 10 years ago – at that time it was a three-hour performance. But the author took a break in preparing the premiere. What only benefited the project: now it is a large-scale, spectacular and concise story, consisting of two acts of 55 minutes each. And modern technologies in the field of computer graphics made it possible to realize more author’s ideas.
The performance looks unusually relevant. And the explosive start with Napoleon’s command: “Go and destroy the Russian army” sounds like a quote from today’s news bulletin. And then the songs of warriors on the battlefields – “you tell my young widow …” – do not leave anyone indifferent. Magnificent acting work (Prince Andrei – Nikita Pozdnyakov, Natasha Rostova – Valeria Vorobyeva), which combines heroism and touchingness, nobility and gullibility … and when the hero sings in French, he transforms in such a way that he truly elevates the entire auditorium behind him. The action is framed by spectacular light scenes. The vocal parts of the artists sound in Russian and French. The libretto includes both the prose of Leo Tolstoy and documentary materials from the diaries of Napoleon, the decrees of Alexander I. Other roles include Roman Orlov, Alexander Pozdnyakov, Nikolai Lyutov, Nikolai Drozdovsky, Ekaterina Kulchitskaya, Svetlana Bakaeva and others. In total, almost fifty actors are involved in the production.
The musical fairy tale “The Wolf and the Seven Kids” based on the cartoon “The Wolf and the Seven Kids in a New Way” was directed by Alexander Rykhlov. Choreographer Zhanna Shmakova and vocal teacher Zhanna Rozhdestvenskaya also worked on the creation of the show for the whole family, while the funny costumes were designed by Alexandra Baranova. The roles are played by the leading actors of the Alexei Rybnikov Theater, including participants in the television project “Voice”.
