The airline’s press service reported that the new format of the Aeroflot chess festival will be held in the spring of 2024 under the organization of the Russian Chess Federation.

The tournament is scheduled for early March next year. The program will consist of an open tournament for strong chess players with a FIDE rating above 2300, as well as a stage of the Russian Children’s Cup for young athletes no older than 15 years. The event will take place in Moscow.

“Supporting sports is one of the priorities of our airline’s social policy. This applies not only to external sponsorship projects, but also to corporate sports programs. Airline employees have created a chess club and regularly take part in competitions at various levels. We are pleased to revive the legendary chess festival under the auspices of Aeroflot and wish all participants successful games and new achievements!” said Sergei Alexandrovsky, CEO of Aeroflot PJSC.

The airline’s press service also reported that the prize fund for the competition will be 15 million rubles.

“At the end of the year, we have great news: Aeroflot has made a wonderful gift to our chess players of different age categories, including children. The famous international tournament, which has a long tradition, is being resumed, and for this we thank our partners,” summed up the President of the Russian Chess Federation Andrei Filatov.

Previously, the competition consisted of three tournaments, the participants of which were distributed according to rating and played with classic time control. There was no separate children’s tournament.
