The Accounts Chamber conducts a scheduled inspection of the operation of several sports facilities, including the Russian Football Union (RFU). The department will evaluate the activities of sports teams that are supported by the federal budget. Until the completion of the audit in the summer of 2023, there will be no comments, they said. “The event is being held at several control facilities, including the Russian Football Union,” the RFU press release says. The audit is called “Evaluation of the effectiveness of measures to ensure the activities of sports teams at the expense of the federal budget, as well as their participation in sports events in 2020-2022.”
The Accounts Chamber, among other things, conducts an examination of draft Federal Laws on the federal budget and the budgets of state non-budgetary funds of the Russian Federation for the next financial year and planning period, as well as an analysis of the validity of their indicators.
Previous time Accounts Chamber checked RFS at the end of 2012. Then the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma, Igor Lebedev, requested an audit due to large accounts payable. It arose due to the fact that the ex-head of the RFU, Sergei Fursenko, during his reign, pledged all the commercial rights of the RFU to the St. Petersburg bank Rossiya in exchange for a loan of more than 800 million rubles. Examination did not reveal violations.
