Tesla to invest $776 million in production expansion

Tesla has filed a $775.7 million expansion for its gigafactory in Austin, Texas, with US authorities. Reuters. In total, Elon Musk’s company wants to build five additional buildings at the production facility, which, among other things, will house a cell research laboratory and a unit called “Cathode”, the exact purpose of which is still unknown. Applications were filed with the Texas Licensing and Regulatory Authority on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, respectively.
Tesla has not yet officially announced the upcoming expansion of the production facility in Austin. The media speculate that it could be announced on March 1, when the traditional investor meeting will take place at the Austin gigafactory.
