Telegraph readers criticized Biden’s ultimatum to London

Readers of The Telegraph newspaper reacted to the message that US President Joe Biden will cancel a visit to the UK if an agreement with the EU on the Northern Ireland Protocol is not reached there.

Citing informed sources, the publication reported that Biden wants to visit Britain, where events will be held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday agreement, signed in 1998.

At the same time, the US president, who is “fiercely proud of his Irish heritage”, is putting pressure on the UK and the EU to reach an agreement on the protocol. It is also reported that in the event of a failure of negotiations between Brussels and London, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will go to Britain instead of Biden.

“This is great, Mr. Biden,” user Susan Lundie responded to this “ultimatum”. “You are doing this because, contrary to common expectations, we are no longer receiving orders from the EU, and we certainly are not going to allow the US government to adjust our policy.”

In June of this year, the UK government introduced a bill unilaterally reviewing changes to the provisions of the Northern Ireland Protocol. This angered the European Union. The European Commission has opened proceedings with London for violating the agreements reached under Brexit.
