Telegram has changed its search algorithm for public groups and channels

The Telegram messenger has changed the search algorithm for public channels and groups, reported founder of the social network Pavel Durov.

It was decided to change the search system due to spammers who used the function of displaying channels with a large number of subscribers. “Now for ranking purposes we take into account only real channel subscribers,” Durov wrote.

“Channels with more Premium subscribers will generally rank higher. However, if a given Premium subscriber joins too many channels, it will not give those channels a significant boost in search rankings,” it said.

Durov noted that the new search will give priority to results from the user’s country.

In the summer of 2022, Telegram added a paid subscription. On the day of launch, its cost was 449 rubles, but two days later it was reduced to 299 rubles. A subscription allows you to upload files up to 4 GB instead of the established limit of 2 GB, get a subscriber badge, disable built-in advertising, transcribe voice messages, subscribe up to 1000 channels, pin up to ten chats, etc. At the same time, the main functions will remain free.

Later, the Premium subscription added the ability to prevent users from sending voice and video messages, as well as the ability to transcribe video messages.
