On June 20, the Viber messenger was also fined for the first time for not deleting false information about the special operation. The amount of the fine was 1 million rubles. It is specified that Roskomnadzor sent six notifications to Viber Media about the need to remove information about the Russian army, but the messenger did not do this. How write Izvestia, a company representative in court, explained that Viber removed the groups from search results and made them inaccessible in Russia. Complete removal is not possible, the spokesman said.
In August 2022, the court will also fined Telegram for not removing the bot with the data of the Russian military involved in the special operation, and channels with false information about the army. Then the amount of the fine was 4 million rubles.
Since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, which Russia launched in February 2022, Roskomnadzor blocked about 206,000 information resources that spread fake news about the Russian army, as well as calls for unauthorized rallies.
