The Iranian Foreign Ministry protested to Russia because of its support for the statement on the disputed islands

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has protested to Russia over Moscow’s statements on disputed islands in the Persian Gulf. In this regard, the Foreign Ministry summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Russian Federation in Tehran, Rafael Gevorkyan.

This reaction followed after the Russian side “supported baseless claims” voiced at the VI session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum, which was held on December 20 in Morocco.

We are talking about three islands in the Persian Gulf – Abu Musa, Little Tunb and Greater Tunb.

“During the summons, he (the Charge d’Affaires of the Russian Federation in Tehran – editor’s note) was conveyed a strong protest from the Islamic Republic of Iran in connection with Moscow’s repeated support for unsubstantiated allegations made in a statement published at the 6th conference of the Forum for Arab-Russian Cooperation in Morocco,” says the Iranian Foreign Ministry website.

In particular, the Russian diplomat was asked to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries.

An official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed Iran’s sovereignty over the islands and emphasized that it “rejects any claims by any party in this regard.”

Earlier, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said that The country has no doubt that Iran has an extremely harmful influence not only in the region, but also in the world.

London called on allies to develop measures “to contain Iran.” According to Cameron, the level of danger and insecurity in the world is extremely high compared to previous years.
