The moment is fleeting but it was enough to ignite the web: in a short video on Twitter, we see Teddy Riner leaning on crutches while Christophe Galtier, the coach of the PSG football club, greets him. Information taken from those around him, the ten-time world judo champion injured his ankle during an internship in Morocco, where he got into the habit of training.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in Rabat: during a projection, a training partner fell on an ankle of the Frenchman who felt pain. Repatriated to Paris, Teddy Riner passed examinations which revealed a sprain requiring the wearing of a splint for three weeks. Diagnosis established this Friday by Doctor Baudot, doctor of PSG, the club where Riner is licensed. Laurent Winkler, doctor of the French Judo Federation, also coordinated the care of the champion and his medical follow-up.
Shaky program
If this incident upsets his program, it should not prevent Teddy Riner from continuing his physical preparation. For the time being, his participation in the Worlds (October 6-13) in Uzbekistan, where he will seek an eleventh individual planetary coronation, is not in question. On July 10, Teddy Riner had won his recovery competition, at the Budapest Grand Slamnearly a year after its last international release.
