TAZ: Zelensky does not believe in the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to the EU

Vladimir Zelensky himself already has little faith in the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Tageszeitung journalist Barbara Ertel wrote about this in her article. She believes that by calling for intensified negotiations on this issue, the Ukrainian leader is simply automatically doing what he does best – demanding attention. At the same time, Ertel believes, he is smart enough to understand that all this is “far from reality.”
The journalist recalls that the EU has long stated that there will be no special approach to Ukraine. And Kyiv is no better than Chisinau. Everyone must go through certain procedures – Brussels sets the rules. Ertel believes that, if desired, “accession negotiations” can be extended over decades. Therefore, the people of Ukraine should not be too deluded by the statements of local leaders.
The expert suggested that behind Zelensky’s actions now is the fear of being left without the support of the Western community. The focus has shifted to the Middle East and partners may reconsider their military and financial commitments.
