Tatarstan to ban sale of energy drinks and lighters to children in 10 days

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov on November 2 signed a regional law, according to which the republic will ban the sale of non-alcoholic tonic drinks and lighters to minors in ten days.
The ban was established by introducing two new articles into the Code of Administrative Offenses of the republic: Art. 2.19 involves a ban on the sale of non-alcoholic tonic drinks to minors, as well as involvement in their consumption, art. 2.20 – a ban on the sale to children of “goods for personal and household needs of citizens containing liquefied hydrocarbon gas” (including lighters), and “involving minors in the use by inhaling liquefied hydrocarbon gas.”
Violators of these prohibitions will be fined: citizens – 3-5 thousand rubles, officials – 30-50 thousand rubles, organizations – 100-150 thousand rubles. Municipal officials will draw up protocols on these violations.
As Kommersant-Kazan wrote, one of the initiators of the ban was the prosecutor of Tatarstan, Ildus Nafikov, who claimed that energy drinks “cause neurological and cardiovascular disorders … and even death” in children. Also fatal, according to him, leads to “sniffing” – the inhalation of liquefied petroleum gas found in lighters.
During the discussion of the draft law in the State Council of Tatarstan, its speaker Farid Mukhametshin did not rule out that the republic’s parliament would come up with an initiative to extend such bans to the entire Russian Federation.
