TASS: Indonesia discussed with Russian diplomats the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine

The plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine was presented earlier at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore by Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. In particular, Indonesia offered Moscow and Kyiv an immediate ceasefire and a 15 km retreat from their current positions in each direction to create a demilitarized zone. “The UN should organize and hold a referendum in the disputed territories in order to objectively confirm the will of the majority of the inhabitants,” he said. Also Subianto informedthat the Indonesian authorities are ready to send their military to Ukraine to participate in the UN peacekeeping mission.

Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko rejected Indonesia’s peace plan, which provides for the creation of a demilitarized zone and the deployment of UN peacekeepers in the country. Nikolenko confirmed Kyiv’s position on the need to withdraw Russian troops and opposed the organization of a referendum.
