Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova said that she is ready to apologize to coach Eteri Tutberidze if she learns the details of the case about the violation of anti-doping rules by figure skater Kamila Valieva.
In January 2024, Kamil Valieva disqualified due to a positive doping test taken in December 2021 during the Russian Championship. Tatyana Tarasova, commenting on this situation, statedthat the coach is responsible for doping found in athletes. According to her, not a single athlete without the coach’s decision “can take any pill from the doctor’s hands.” Eteri Tutberidze called Ms. Tarasova’s words were slanderous and stated that she was waiting for an official apology.
“If they provide me with evidence of how this actually happened, then I will be happy to apologize,” Tatyana Tarasova commented on Mrs. Tutberidze’s appeal (quoted by TASS).
By decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport dated January 29, 2024, Kamila Valieva was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The banned substance trimetazidine was found in her sample. All of the skater’s results since December 2021 have been cancelled. De facto, the period of exclusion from sports competitions is counted from the moment the sample is taken and for Kamila Valieva it expires in 2025.
