Tajikistan asked the Sverdlovsk Ombudsman to counteract the involvement of migrants in extremism

The delegation of Tajikistan appealed to Tatiana Merzlyakova, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Sverdlovsk Region, with a request to prevent the involvement of migrants in extremist and terrorist groups. Ms. Merzlyakova herself announced this after a meeting with the Tajik side on August 8.

“A frank conversation about the rights of migrants, their adaptation on Russian territory. I sincerely confess that I expected some kind of criticism against our side. But I got real lessons of mutual understanding and interaction. I heard a request not to allow them to be involved in any groups of an extremist, terrorist nature,” the Ombudsman wrote on her website. page in VKontakte.

In addition to Tatiana Merzlyakova, the meeting was attended by Vyacheslav Yarin, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations of the Sverdlovsk Region. The delegation from Tajikistan was headed by the head of the department of the State Committee for National Security Narzullo Valiev.

The Commissioner for Human Rights in the Sverdlovsk Region emphasized that despite the “difficult topic”, the conversation with the Tajik delegation turned out to be useful. “The Consul General of Tajikistan in Yekaterinburg, Zafar Sayidzoda, emphasized that our region is distinguished by a high degree of culture in working with migrants,” she concluded.

According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Sverdlovsk Region, in 2022 the number of migrants in the region increased by almost 25%. In total, according to the Finexpertiz report, the number of foreign citizens who came to Russia for the purpose of work in 2022 amounted to 3.47 million, which is a third more than in 2021. The leaders among all labor migrants who came to the country were citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
