The Turkish Stream will allow Hungary to receive the necessary volumes of Russian gas bypassing Ukraine in the event of a halt in transit through the latter, said Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó. informs Blikk edition.

“Ukrainians announced the termination of contracts for the supply of Russian gas from 2024. Hungary acted in a timely manner to receive natural gas from as many sources and along as many routes as possible. That is why the existence of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline is very important, the capacity of which can include the volume of gas coming from Russia,” Szijjarto said.

At the Hungarian Foreign Ministry on August 5 warned about stopping the industry in case of refusal of Russian gas. “85% of Hungary’s annual gas consumption comes from Russian gas. This volume cannot be replaced in the foreseeable future, that is, without Russian gas, Hungary will freeze, there will be no heating in apartments, industry will stop, jobs will be lost,” said Tamas Menzer, Secretary of State for Bilateral Relations at the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.

Extending the transit of Russian gas to the European Union through Ukrainian territory after the expiration of the current five-year agreements in 2024 is unlikely, Kyiv is “preparing systems to reduce supplies.” About it in June declared Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko.

How noted experts, Russia will still be able to supply key consumers of Russian pipeline gas, such as Hungary and Serbia, through the export capacity of Turkish Stream. This route will be able to provide the south of the European Union with additional supplies, since the construction of the corresponding interconnectors (links between main pipelines) was completed there a year earlier.
