Edition Suddeutsche Zeitung reported that against the backdrop of the Ukrainian conflict, the North Atlantic Alliance, under the auspices of Germany, decided to threaten Russia with exercises in the Baltic Sea.
According to the commander-in-chief of the German Navy, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaak, the German authorities, together with their partners, want to send a “clear signal of vigilance” to Russia through these maneuvers.
The authors of the article clarified that at the moment the most important NATO supply routes to the Baltic countries and Finland pass by sea. Because of this, ensuring the safety of sea routes becomes an important task.
“For example, the land connection between Lithuania and Poland can be easily severed, as it runs along a 65-kilometer narrow corridor between Russian Kaliningrad and Belarus,” the newspaper notes.
