Syria says Israeli attack on Aleppo airport

The Israeli army launched an attack on the Aleppo International Airport in Syria, as a result of which it was disabled, reported local agency SANA, citing a source in the country’s Ministry of Defense.

“At about 4:30 am, an Israeli enemy carried out an air attack on the Aleppo airport from the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia,” the report said.

The attack damaged the runway.

Last time by Aleppo Airport has undergone attack in early May, media reported that one Syrian soldier was killed in an Israeli attack, five more and two civilians were injured. Prior to this, the work of the airport due to a missile attack suspended in March.

As the media noted at the time, Israel’s strikes on Syrian territory seek to destroy the Iranian supply chains through which Tehran supplies its allies in Syria and Lebanon, including the local Hezbollah, which also has political influence in Lebanon. The Assad government does not officially recognize the presence of pro-Iranian militants in Syria, saying that Tehran is helping Damascus only with military advisers.
