Synchronized swimming section to be opened at the water sports center in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

Olympic disciplines will be organized in the new water sports center, which is being built in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The builders assembled almost a thousand tons of metal structures – this is a third of the total. The progress of the work was inspected by Governor Valery Limarenko and Mayor Sergei Nadsadin.

“Our water sports center will be Olympic level. There will be two large swimming pools for professional athletes. Construction is active. We expect the object to be launched in 2024. It is important that we attracted funds from private businesses for the implementation of the project, which allowed us to save budget money by directing it to other areas that are important for people,” said Valery Limarenko.

The five-storey water sports center will house two pools: 50×25 meters in size and 3 meters deep and 30×25 meters in depth of 6 meters. Spectator stands are designed for more than 1000 people.

“The main work now is the installation of a metal frame. According to the project, the total tonnage is 3156 tons, today a little less than a thousand have been mounted – that is, almost a third. The metal is all made, sometimes there are delays in delivery from the mainland, but we are in constant contact with the Ministry of Transport. As soon as the material arrives, we immediately take it to work. Completion of work on the metal frame is scheduled for June 1. At the same time, we are working on pouring concrete, the basement is ready, we are working with ceilings, ”said Dmitry Sizikov, head of the customer company GEH Engineering.

The building, designed in the form of a wave, will harmoniously fit into the urban landscape. In the center, in addition to the pools, there will be a foyer, buffets, rooms for athletes and coaches, a rehabilitation complex for the rehabilitation of the disabled, judges’ rooms, and a conference hall. Comfortable conditions for people with limited mobility will be created at the facility.

“I am very pleased that in our region much attention is paid to the popularization of swimming. An object of such a high class will allow Sakhalin residents to choose from a larger number of water sports – in addition to classical sports swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo and diving will be available for the first time in the region, ”said Sergey Meleshkov, director of the water sports sports school.

Recall that the water sports center is being built next to the city park at the expense of Gazprom’s investments. And this is not the only sports facility that PJSC Gazprom is building under agreements signed with the Sakhalin Region. In September last year in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the construction of a new universal sports complex was launched, where training and competitions in volleyball, basketball and artistic gymnastics will be held. The facility will be located on Gorky Street, to the north of another large-scale sports facility, the athletics arena. According to the plan, the construction of the sports complex will be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2025.
