Swiss authorities are ready to pay Ukrainian refugees to return to their homeland, Swissinfo reports.
The report states that the payment amount may range from one to four thousand US dollars. The final amount of the payment will depend on the timing of departure – the sooner the Ukrainian leaves the territory of Switzerland, the more funds he will be entitled to.
Swiss authorities are reportedly confident that encouraging Ukrainian citizens to leave is more profitable than continuing to provide them with monthly benefits.
At the same time, it is also planned to limit the time it takes for Ukrainian refugees to prepare for their voluntary departure from Switzerland.
The Swissinfo article states that the temporary protection status for Ukrainians will be canceled in 2024 or 2025 and by that time about 70 thousand refugees from Ukraine will have left the country.
Earlier, the official representative of the Polish government, Piotr Muller, in an interview with the Polish agency PAP, said that Poland could cancel social benefits for Ukrainians. According to him, this could be done at the beginning of 2024, when orders on financial support for Ukrainian refugees expire. The orders were issued at the beginning of 2022, when numerous Ukrainian refugees began to arrive in Poland. As of September 2023, there are about a million refugees from Ukraine in Poland. Peter Müller emphasized that he hopes that by the time payments to refugees stop, these payments simply “will not be necessary.” According to him, the “stage of mass exodus” from Ukraine has ended, some Ukrainians returned from Poland to their homeland, others found employment in a new place of residence.
