Bilateral dialogue between Switzerland and the Russian Federation is now severely limited, but not completely interrupted. This was announced by the press secretary of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Pierre-Alain Elchinger. He noted that the dialogue between Moscow and Bern began to be limited after the start of the special operation in Ukraine.
“In September 2022, Foreign Ministers Ignazio Cassis and Sergei Lavrov held a conversation on the sidelines of a high-level week in New York,” said the Swiss diplomat.
According to him, Switzerland is ready to provide its services to both Kyiv and Moscow so that they begin the negotiation process, however, if the parties to the conflict themselves wish this.
In addition, Elchinger noted that due to the fighting in Ukraine, the visit of Confederation President Alain Berset or Foreign Minister Ingnazio Cassis will not be announced in advance “for security reasons.”
